Breathing

Breathing

Lifehouse

I’m finding my way back to sanity, again
Though I don’t really know what
I am gonna do when I get there
Take a breath and hold on tight
Spin around one more time
And gracefully fall back in the arms of grace
I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don’t want to speak tonight
That’s alright, alright with me
‘Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside Heaven’s door and listen to you breathing
Is where I want to be
I am looking past the shadows
Of my mind into the truth and
I’m trying to identify
The voices in my head
God, which one’s you?
Let me feel one more time
What it feels like to feel
And break these calluses off me
One more time
‘Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don’t want to speak tonight
That’s alright, alright with me
‘Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside your door and listen to you breathing
Is where I want to be
I don’t want a thing from you
Bet you’re tired of me waiting
For the scraps to fall
Off your table to the ground
I just want to be here now

This is my favorite Lifehouse song so far. Jason Wade has the best voice (male) for me, even if I don’t really understand what he’s saying sometimes, because he has a tendency to literally eat his own words. He’s still great though, not only because of the depth of the lyrics and his voice, but also because of his and his bandmates’ image. They’re Christian, and even if they’ve managed to hit mainstream music, they’re still able to stick to their faith, which I think is great.

Is Anyone Actually There?

This is kind of bit depressing. Are we this scared of people now that we panic when we actually do talk to them? Granted, we don’t go this far, but maybe, because of the easier time that technology is giving us now, we abuse it that by the time we actually face people, we actually get more nervous than when we’re sending them messages via text, email, or instant messengers?

I’m not saying that technology is bad. Not at all. I’m just saying, maybe we’re using it too much that we’re slowly cutting our ties to other people, or at least dull them. It’s not as personal anymore, so that when we actually encounter them face-to-face, it’s a bit like information overload.

We need to reach out more, I guess.

Another Phone Gone

7610I can’t believe it! My phone got stolen over the weekend, the second one that disappeared in a few months’ time.

I wasn’t as attached to this phone as I was the one before that, but still… This was a gift that was given me, and I really feel bad about it being stolen, even if it wasn’t completely my fault.

I honestly don’t know why people steal stuff, no matter what their reason. Sure, poverty’s very prevalent and is definitely a state that’s very difficult to be in, but I really don’t think it’s justified.  It’s not just the mere act that’s wrong, it’s that they’re willing to go and try to profit by maligning other people.

We interrupt the scheduled program to bring you the news that Heroes will have an early season finale on December 3 due to the writers’ strike.

*Sigh* That’s three more episodes to go.:( It’s just upsetting, not just because the season gets cut short, but also because we don’t know for sure if and/or when it’s going to come back again. I don’t have anything against the writers, I actually think they deserve the cut they’re asking for, but it’s just depressing to have your favorite show go off because of the strike. Here’s to hoping it would be resolved soon.

Faking It

How many times do we find ourselves “faking it”: outright lying, stretching the truth, etc. Whether we do it to impress people or to get out of a sticky situation, there’s really no getting around to it that we’re lying: not just fibbing, not giving “white” lies - we’re out and out lying. Practically everyone has done that at least once in his/her life. I wonder what the attraction to it is?

Lady Godiva

I chuckled quite a bit with this one. I guess not a lot of people these days would recognize the name of “Lady Godiva” - not unless it’s used in some movie or game that would make it recognizable again. l

I miss that. Reading mythology from different countries. I’ve always loved stories, and I try to read as much as I can even now. The thing is, I can’t seem to find any good novels (fantasy, please) these days. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

Rahab the Harlot

I found this on an online devotional site, and I thought I’d share it with you.

By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace. (Hebrews 11:31)

God delivered the fortress of Jericho into the hands of His people, as the walls fell down, by faith. “By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days” (Hebrews 11:30). This evil city of abominations was then destroyed, as the holy Lord God had justly required. “You shall utterly destroy them…lest they teach you to do according to all their abominations which they have done for their gods” (Deuteronomy 20:17-18). Yet, the family of Rahab, the harlot, was rescued, by faith. “By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe.”

In preparation for entering the land, Joshua had sent out two spies, who were eventually received by Rahab. “Now Joshua…sent out two men…to spy secretly, saying, ‘Go, view the land, especially Jericho.’ So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there” (Joshua 2:1). The king of Jericho searched for the men and could not find them, for Rahab had concealed them. “She had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax” (Joshua 2:6). Why would this woman have risked her life to protect these two strangers? She and her family had heard of the reality of the God of Israel. “We have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites…whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts meltedfor the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath” (Joshua 2:10-11). This heathen family now wanted to turn from their idolatrous ways and identify by faith with the true and living Lord God and with His people. “Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was on the city wall” (Joshua 2:15).

By her confession of faith, confirmed by her actions of faith, Rahab and her family were rescued from the judgment that her unbelieving city experienced. “And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father’s household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day” (Joshua 6:25). She became a part of the nation Israel, even appearing in the line of Jesus, the Messiah! “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ…Abraham begot Isaac…Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab” (Matthew 1:1-2, 5). What astounding blessings come to those who believe. By faith, Rahab went from judgment to deliverance, from idols to God, from shame to honor!

Lord God of all who believe, I am humbled and encouraged by Rahab’s testimony. It is humbling to see how much more revelation I have — yet, at times, I wrestle with fears and doubts. However, it is encouraging to see the radical changes that You bring whenever we trust in You!

Wow. Just… wow. Imagine someone, who has never heard of the Lord or of His people in the past, and is a prostitute besides, be willing to house two spies (on fear of death. She was consorting with the enemies, after all) and be ready to give up practically everything that she’s known to come to the Lord. How did God manifest to her? How was she called, so that even without prior knowledge, she already knew that those people are from Him? We may never know the answer, but what we do know is this: that her acts were made in faith, even without any guarantees or evidence that what she’s doing will bear fruit, because she knew that what she’s doing is right. What about us, who already have knowledge of God? Do we also have that same faith, that we’re willing to go and throw everything we’ve known out the window and step out in faith? Or are we doing the complete opposite, having already known the Lord, we instead become heathens?

Sweet Tooth

Ah, the life of one who has a sweet tooth. I admit, I’m also guilty of sneaking treats from the refrigerator, even after being told not to. If I get stopped from nibbling on cookies, I’d move on to chocolates. If told off for eating that, I’d move on to fruit juices or other drinks. If reprimanded even for that, I’d suck on candies. I have major sugar fixation, and while I can survive not having anything sweet after every meal (although I’d prefer to have one, even if it’s just a teensy chunk of good ol’ chocolate), I would probably be one sad person if I didn’t have anything sweet for one whole day. My dentist and a lot of my doctors would be sad (or happy, whichever way you look at it) if they find out about this quirk of mine. I really I should cut back, as this would probably come back and bite me ten or so years from now. I really need to start living healthy.

Boo!

Can anyone say ouch? Poor grandpa. The sad thing is, I don’t even know if the grandmother’s trying to be funny or not with her comment, what with her poker face and all.

I guess I don’t really believe in the spirit of Halloween. Like most holidays, it’s been commercialized to the nth level (candied pumpkins, anyone?), not to mention the fact that its origins aren’t really that… er, holy to begin with. Sure, you can always blame it on me being a scaredy-cat (which is a bit true), but that’s not really the entire story. It just doesn’t seem right that we celebrate monsters and creatures of the night, when what we’re supposed to do is spend some time remembering the dead. It’s as if we’re saying to them, “Hey, you resemble Frankenstein’s monster!”

It’s just plain wrong.
