blog.fon.com
Thursday, July 26, 2007

We’ve implemented a new feature for owners of multiple Fonera’s called “Router Status”. You can access this through the User Zone in the Configure Your FON Router section. This new feature shows the status of all your Foneras. Our intent is to help improve uptime since some routers may become accidentally disconnected. You can now log in and confirm that we show your routers as online. This is quicker then checking the maps or driving around town! Currently this is only available to owners of multiple routers but we’re going to expand it to everyone soon!

Raja Petra Kamarudin is the editor of a popular political website
The Malaysian government has warned it could use tough anti-terrorism laws against bloggers who insult Islam or the country’s king.

The move comes as one of Malaysia’s leading online commentators has been questioned by police following a complaint by the main governing party.

The new rules would allow a suspect to be detained indefinitely, without being charged or put on trial.

But officials insist the law is not intended to strangle internet freedom.

Facebook is the world’s second biggest social networking site
A hearing into the case against the founder of the social networking website Facebook has been postponed by the judge until 8 August.
Three founders of a rival site, ConnectU, say Facebook’s creator Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for the site while they were all at Harvard.

The judge has given ConnectU’s founders extra time to flesh out their case.

Facebook’s lawyers denied the allegations and urged Judge Douglas Woodlock to dismiss the case.

The Federal case accuses Mr Zuckerberg of fraud and misappropriation of trade secrets, and asks for ConnectU to be given ownership of Facebook.

Facebook has become a global phenomenon with about 31 million users, compared with ConnectU’s 70,000.

I confess I have checked email on my iPhone-Nokia E61i-Blackberry while in the bathroom, crossing the street and during dinner at a busy restaurant. I used to think that with my email addiction, I was an extreme case, an email addict of the worse kind. Apparently, I am not alone.

Because the Facebook social networking experience can be precisely what you want to make of it. Think of Facebook as a professional tool, and that’s what it is. It doesn’t matter how millions of high school and college students are using Facebook to get out of doing homework. You can make it into whatever you want, even your own personal media broadcasting channel.

Mozilla Thunderbird Lookin’ For a Little Respect
webworkerdaily.com

It’s hard when no matter how good you are, your brother is still everyone’s darling.

Mozilla Thunderbird is a rather amazing email client in its own right. It’s quick on its feet, it’s customizable, it’s cross-platform, and it handles IMAP email and identities better than most of its competition in the desktop email client space. Despite Thunderbird’s obvious advantages, Firefox is Mozilla’s crown jewel and gets all of Daddy’s love. Does Thunderbird continue to grovel for table scraps or is it time to strike out in new territory?
