these are emails that we have received. If you can help any of them with there problems let them know.

I am fostering two sets of kittens and I am now on my own to find them homes because of this one person rescue that turned bad. . I want to still foster with a new rescue group, but have to find homes for these first and I am not good at screening people or I am too picky, Like I want to see the person's place first. Is that so wrong. It seems when I mention this to someone, they back out and then I wonder why.
*********
I want to commend you on this site and what you are doing. I also would love to send letters of complaint to pressure Petco into making sure that all the (rescues they use are 501 c3) I know of several who are not. I also have been to the home of one of these rescues and it was horrible, the animals are kept in a garage it stunk like cat urine and they had wire pens with dirty blankets on the floor, that they kept the animals in as well as it being dark and open shelves with bottles of medicine so if an animal got it could chew up this stuff. Also they only take cash. There is another one who does the same at another petco who is not 501c3 and I have a few first hand experiences with her as well.
*********
I read the pet section of Craig's List frequently. Out of curiosity, what is your beef with rescue groups? Why are you hiding behind this anonymous cloak? To my understanding they do a wonderful service for the community. I have three dogs currently and got each one from a rescue group--three different groups, and they are all angels and volunteers. I've never had any of the experiences you write about. Do you represent a rescue group yourself? Why didn't you identify who appears in the picture and what those pictures have to do with that particular dog? If you are so sure of what you are saying, why don't you sign your name? You must have an ulterior motive and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with helping dogs. Perhaps someone should visit your job or business to discuss this with you to find out why you are trying to prevent animals who surely would be killed in the shelters from being rescued. You need to be educated about the horrendous numbers of homeless dogs, dying needlessly. Nearly 7,000 dogs were put to death in San Diego last year. Every person who tries to rescue or shelter a dog deserves our thanks and gratitude, not veiled innuendo, suspicion and blame.

Thank you for emailing us. As you can see we want everyone to have a thought and opinion.

I just wanted to comment on the price list posted by doglover.
What planet are you from.....(HS)
Because down here in the real world.....
vaccines
chips
foster supplies
ALL cost money...lots of it.
Not to mention the special cases, injured animals, black kittens, ringworm, URi........
Who do you think is taking those animals.....
Its all of us small, broke little rescues. We dont have full time staff of vets to do surgerys, give us chips & vaccines....We have to purchase these things. Are you really that clueless. That pricelist is inaccurate, narrow minded and clueless.
You should know better, or take the time to learn

The problem is that too many "rescuers" are using rescue funds for personal income. The 501c funds are clearly earmarked for use for the activity of the non profit. A person can be hired for care, but the intent of the 501c is to rescue, not to provide a living for the rescuer.

I am an oldtime rescuer. My rescues, when I was rescuing were literally rescues. If I did not have the time or money to take care of an animal it was passed on to someone who did. And none of this association with closing down the competition was evident. Most rescuers were purebred breeders at one time. The new rescuers compete for the purebred animals, even being opportunistic about generating seizures from homes. They are like vultures. Turning each other in, then arranging for fostering the animals of the other rescue, the owner or the breeder.

This is a new quasi legal industry, fostering and rescuing animals. And AC does not check to make sure that rescues are over their number limits or not when they release at a discount to the rescues. AC blinks at their prime rescues who violate land use laws, and even laws about isolation and quarantine of animals who are sick or have bitten someone. AC and the Humane societies are part of the problem

It used to be that those of us that loved animals AS THEY ARE, were in rescue. Now it is all about the money. Some rescuers are actually mixed breed breeders. They deserve to be stopped.

To: 2nd time foster mom
From Mom - It really depends on the facts of your experience. Can you explain more? Most of these types of cases are isolated. What is the issue with the dog and how much money have you had to spend out of your own pocket? Have you submitted receipts to the rescue for reimbursement?
How did it place your pets in danger? Need more info to really see if this is isolated.

The above is the answer that was posted by mom.

1) The facts are the rescue lied or did not give information about the health status of the foster/adopted dog. When a rescue is bringing dogs from areas that have no records of shots or vet checks and put them right into foster/adopter homes. You are putting the dogs in that home in danger.

2) Explain more? The rescue is the one that should be explaining to the foster/adopters where the dogs have come from and what the VET health status is.

3) These type of cases are NOT isolated.

4) The issue is the dogs are not given any medical before they are foster/adopted out. Or the rescue could provide information about the dog to the fosters/adopters.

5) How much money have you had to spend out of your own pocket? Food, housing, treats, bed, blankets, shampoo and anything else that a dog would basically need to have.

6) submitted receipts for reimbursement to a rescue that can not give information on the dogs they fostering/adopting out.

7) How did it place your pets in danger? Rescue sent a dog for foster/adoption with NO medical, health, vet, shot records. Is there enough room here to put all the diseases that happen when non of the above is done.

8) Need more information to know that this is not an isolated case.

We do not want any foster/adopter to feel they have to explain themselves over and over to a rescue that did not care about them to begin with. This is where foster/adopters can ask for help with the dogs they have. Fosters/adopters should never have to feel like they are the ones causing the problems.

The above is rescues in general. And does not reflect any one rescue.

Thank you for your response. I'm hesitant to give out full, identifiable details just yet as the pup is still in my care.

I've had no response at all regarding informing them about the diagnosis, which cost over $300. The puppy had an infection, I was told after I took him home that he had already been treated for the infection and was fine. The infection is contagious, though so far my other dogs appear fine. (Luckily enough, as I was not warned at all that they knew he had suffered from any disease.) They have also yet to produce vet records for the previous treatment they claimed to have given him, including basic shot records, despite requests.

I'm assuming that this website was set up after one or possibly several people have had issues with a local rescue or rescues. Hence my question as to whether this is par for the course. Again, once my pup is healthy and in a good home, I will have no qualms naming names.

As a volunteer foster mom, I am currently dealing with a "very large" local rescue group that has been acting less than reputable. They lied about the health status of my foster dog, and not only did it cost me out of pocket money, it potentially placed my own pets in danger.

I am curious if this is an isolated instance or if this is the typical mode of operation for the group. If it is typical, I am more than happy to go public.
