Are you fostering a dog or cat for a local rescue group? Have you recently adopted a dog or cat from a rescue?
DID YOU KNOW…..
Although there are many trustworthy, reputable groups, there are a few that are not. The California law stipulates that a pet owner is required to provide necessary vet care…some rescues deny their rescued animals desperately needed care.
The agreement that the rescue groups have with the local shelters is based on the understanding that the pets they exit will be spayed or neutered if needed. There are some occasional groups that do not do this either before they adopt out the animals. Sometimes they don’t provide needed vaccinations as well.
There are rescue people who think nothing of throwing 10-15 dogs in the same yard without proper quarantining of new dogs to avoid contagious diseases such as Parvo or Distemper. There are shelters immediately outside of San Diego county shelters that do not vaccinate or spay and neuter. There dogs and puppies are not micro chipped either.
When dealing with a 501C-3 not-for-profit group, the funds collected are specifically to be used for the animals themselves. There are occasional groups that charge adoption fees that approach $200 and yet you get an animal that doesn’t even have basic vet care.
This site has been created to educate the public of their rights and more importantly, of the rights of the animals in the care of these rescue groups. This site provides you with the information to lodge a complaint to put a stop to the recklessness. Don’t let your calls go ignored. You are an advocate for the animals in your care-whether you are fostering or adopting them. We have a place in this site for your personal stories as well. Thank you for taking the time to make a difference.
